PRESS RELEASE
WE ARE DEVASTATED OVER THE EXIT OF PA AYO ADEBANJO
It is with shock and sorrow that we received the news of the demise of Pa Ayo Adebanjo, a first generation nationalist, pro-democracy champion, and leader of the Pan-Yoruba Socio-political Organization, Afenifere. Chief Adebanjo who passed on this morning in Lagos, left behind an enduring legacy of patriotism, courage, and unparalleled commitment to democratic principles.
Until his demise, Chief Adebanjo was the last man standing in the inner caucus of the Awoist Group. He was also the Organising Secretary of the Action Group and the Leader of Afenifere. His contributions to Nigeria’s political evolution and his relentless advocacy for true federalism and restructuring will remain indelible. He remained steadfast in the call for a just and equitable Nigeria, a cause he dedicated his entire life to.
Chief Adebanjo’s absence will be deeply felt, not just within the Yoruba nation, but across Nigeria and beyond. His profound wisdom and principled positions alongside his fearless stance on national issues have shaped the struggle for a more united and prosperous nation.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to his immediate family, the Afenifere group, and all those who share in this irreparable loss. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
Signed,
Dr. Joe Odumakin
President.
