President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of esteemed legal scholar, Professor Kharisu Sufiyanu Chukkol, who died on Sunday evening in Abuja at the age of 79.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu extended his heartfelt condolences to the late professor’s family, students, and mentees, recognizing his immense contributions to legal education in Nigeria.
A native of Mayo Belwa in Adamawa State, Professor Chukkol dedicated his career to the advancement of law at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, where he served in various capacities, including as Dean of the Faculty of Law and Director of the Institute of Administration.
His influence shaped the careers of numerous legal professionals, including serving justices of the Supreme Court and other senior members of the judiciary.
The President particularly lauded Professor Chukkol’s scholarly contributions, noting that his 1988 book, Law of Crimes in Nigeria, remains a foundational reference for legal practitioners and students.Â
He also acknowledged the late professor’s lasting legacy through his children, including Abdulkarim Chukkol, the immediate past Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
President Tinubu urged the bereaved family and the wider legal community to take comfort in Professor Chukkol’s remarkable achievements and the lasting impact of his work.
