Suspected herders killed three people on Wednesday night at the Mbasombo community in Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.
This came less than 24 hours after two people were killed by suspected herders in Gwer West LG of the state.
According to a local who simply gave his name as Abraham, the marauding herders stormed the village under the cover of darkness.
“Residents were already asleep when we heard sporadic gunshots. They opened fire indiscriminately and set many houses on fire, and the sudden attack made some people flee their homes into surrounding bushes and nearby villages.
“Three corpses were recovered while several people sustained injury,” Abraham narrated.
When contacted, the Chairman of the local government, Timothy Adi, confirmed that three deaths were recorded but added that the situation was relatively calm.
He said, “I’m in a meeting. The casualty figure is three; the situation now is relatively calm.”
Also, the spokesperson for Benue State Police Command, Catherine Anene, confirmed the incident.
“Incident confirmed,” Anene simply sent in a text message.
